Scarves in the Port City

Photo Courtesy of Scarves in the Port City

This time of year, despite moving to the South, my feet are ALWAYS cold.  I wear thick socks around the house and usually have a blanket covering them as well.  It's hard to believe I grew up in Kansas where the temps often fell below zero and then spent nearly 20 years in the DC Metro area -- and survived.  I tell you this because it reminds me that there are so many people who don't have the luxury of having thick socks or a blanket they can throw over their feet while snuggled up on a sofa in a home with heat.

Last year, while walking down the street, I noticed a scarf hanging on a fence post.  Of course, I thought someone had lost it, but then noticed a little tag that stated the scarf had been left there intentionally for anyone who might need warmth.  I was impressed and immediately went home to locate the responsible charity.  This is a project called "Scarves in the Port City".

If you've got some old scarves around the house, have a talent for knitting/crocheting, or even like me, got an eMail this morning from World Market that all scarves are 50% off, please consider dropping them at the following locations:

Clean Eatz -- 206 Racine Drive
Dock Street Oyster Bar -- 12 Dock Street
DFIT Demetrius Farrior's Island Training -- 5653 Carolina Beach Road (between 5:30 a.m.-10 a.m.)
Vapor Shack -- 4606 Maple Avenue (Wilmington) and 324 Village Road (Leland)
Wilmington Taco Factory & American Grill -- 1051 S. College Road
Eastern Therapeutic Center -- 3333 Wrightsville Avenue, Suite M
Or simply eMail me and I'll be glad to come by and pick them up and deliver them for you.

Wishing you and yours a very warm and merry holiday season!
